Background

Dr. Murat Kucukvar serves as the Chairman and Assistant Professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering at Istanbul Sehir University, Turkey. He holds the positions of International Programs and Erasmus Coordinator, Board Member of Graduate School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Member of Quality Commission. He is also a founding member and co-director of the Sustainable Systems & Solutions Lab (S3-Lab, http://s3-lab.sehir.edu.tr/) at Istanbul Sehir University. Before joining Istanbul Sehir University, Dr. Kucukvar worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at University of Central Florida in a joint project between the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) and  the U.S. Department of Transportation. Dr. Kucukvar received his Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida in December 2013 in Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering, and his M.S. from the Ohio University in Civil Engineering. 

The world is in the midst of the ecological, economic, and social crises. To achieve environmentally benign, cost-effective, and socially acceptable solutions for today’s complex global issues, the systems thinking is mandatory. His research is mainly inspired by this holistic approach, and focused on the environmental, economic, and societal aspects of  sustainability in a regional and global scale. Dr. Kucukvar has over 90 publications (journal+conference) in various topics: sustainability analysis, systems engineering, modeling and simulation, energy systems, sustainable production and supply chain management, smart and sustainable cities, life cycle sustainability assessment, and decision analysis for system design.
